Since the release of our spring/ summer edition of amirisu magazine, we are so grateful for the lovely feedback that we are getting. And it is so much fun seeing everyone's pieces popping up on SNS! We were running a KAL on Instagram (which ended on the 25th August), and one of the most popular shawls was the Wings of the Dove, designed by Joan Forgione. Knit with Freia Yarn's Ombre Merino Lace, the gorgeous flow gradient colors matches the lace pattern beautifully, and the softness of colors is just dreamy. So today, we would like to introduce Joan, and ask her about inspirations and other things about her designs.
amirisu: Where did you get the inspiration for this design?
Joan: The inspiration for this shawl came from its shape. Semi-circular shawls lend themselves to lots of different lace and eyelet patterns. Combining the patterns to create the flow and drape of the shawl was a bit of a challenge and lots of fun to do.
amirisu: If you were to knit with another color, what will it be?
Joan: I think I’d knit this in a soft shade in a non-gradient, maybe the palest pink or yellow. All of the testers used a solid or semi-solid and they turned out beautifully.
amirisu: What is your favorite way of spending the summer, and what did you knit/ or made in the summer time?
Joan: I’ve lived on an island my whole life, so my favorite way to spend the summer is on the beach. I love to knit light, portable things in the summer like shawls, socks or easy tops and tanks, but often because of my design schedule, I’m knitting winter things in heavier yarn. That’s just the way the knitting calendar goes for designers!

amirisu: このショールのインスピレーションはどこから得ましたか？
Joan: インスピレーションはショールの形から得ました。半円のショールはレース模様やアイレット模様にとても合う形です。流れるような模様とドレープを出す為に様々な組み合わせを考えることは、私にとって挑戦でもあり、とても楽しい時間でもありました。
amirisu: もし他の色で編むとしたら何色を選びますか？
Joan: そうですね、多分グラデーションではない薄い色で編むと思います。とても薄いピンクか黄色かしら。テストニッター達は全員単色に近い色で編んでくれましたが、どの作品もとても綺麗でした。
amirisu: 一番好きな夏の過ごし方はどんな感じですか？また、夏にはどんなものを編んだり作ったりしますか？
Joan: 私は生まれてからずっと島に住んでいるので、夏はビーチで過ごすのが一番好きです。編みたいのは軽くて持ち運びやすいショールや靴下、それにシンプルなトップスやタンクトップですね。でもデザイナーとしては、スケジュール的に太い糸で冬物を編まなくてはいけないことも多いんです！
