We are excited to release our Winter 2018 issue of amirisu magazine later this week. So last but not least, today we are going to introduce Nataliya Sinelshchikova, the designer behind Pink Pine Pair from issue 14. Moving from Moscow, she now lives in a small village near Rotterdam, and is a graphic designer/ media artist. This pretty pair of mittens with symmetrically laid-out triangles caught many peoples eyes, and was one of the popular designs for our KAL.
So as always, we asked her where the inspiration for this design came from.
Nataliya: Actually, the inspiration came from the mood board that amirisu had for the fall issue. The theme is very close to me, I love bold color combinations and simple geometry. I also have few inspiration boards on Pinterest with pictures of nature forming clean geometric lines and shapes. Besides, at that time I just learned how to knit Intarsia and wanted to challenge myself combining it with cables.
amirisu: If you were to knit with another color, what will it be?
Nataliya: Actually, I already finished one pair in light blue (glacier) and cold pink (sorbet) color combo, and now I plan to knit using calmer monochrome colors, thinking of different shades of gray or storm blue. I really like some of the color combinations chosen by knitters on Instagram and Ravelry for these mittens, for example, yellow and light grey.
amirisu: Since moving to Holland, has your knitting changed in any way?
Nataliya: I have to confess, I didn't knit before I moved to Holland. My grandmother tought me how to knit when I was 9, but I wasn't assiduous enough to make knitting my hobby. In 2015 I moved to The Netherlands. I started to live in a small village close to Rotterdam. Before Holland, I was working as an art director at an advertising agency in Moscow. I had extremely busy life in the city with more than 20 millions of people. Now I live in a village with approximately 9,000 people, surrounded by forests and fields. For my birthday I received 25mm needles and a huge skein of Loopy Mango super chunky yarn, my first hat was ready in an hour. Since then I fell in love with knitting. It helped me to change and adjust my lifestyle to the new home and start to appreciate moments of quietness and contemplation where there is no need to rush.
amirisu: What is your mood for knitting/ designing these days?
Nataliya: In knitting, I always try to challenge myself, use a new technique, incorporate or combine stitches I didn't use before. I do have simple projects on my needles, and they are great for movie evenings. I have one project to practice in patience and details: a blanket with hundreds of unwoven ends, I go back to it every time I feel extra determination. It is possible to say, that for every mood I have a knitting project!

こんにちは。時の経つのは早いもので、今週末にはamirisuの最新号が発売されます。そこで, 今日は14号からラストを飾る素敵なデザイナーをご紹介したいと思います。モスクワ生まれのNataliya Sinelshchikovaさんは数年前にロッテルダム近郊の小さい村へ引越し、グラフィックデザイナーとして働いています。左右対称の三角模様が目を引くPink Pine PairはKALでも人気のデザインでした。
それでは、今回もこのデザインのインスピレーションについて聞いてみたいと思います。
Nataliya: 今回のインスピレーションはamirisuのムードボードです。14号のテーマとして挙げられていたはっきりとした色の組み合わせやシンプルな幾何学模様はいつも私の頭の中にあり、とても好きなものです。自然が作り出す幾何学的な線や形を集めたpinterestのボードもいくつか持っています。また、これをデザインした頃ちょうどインターシアの技法を覚えたばかりだったので、それをケーブル模様と合わせてみたいと思っていたところだったのです。そんな風にしてこのデザインは生まれました。
amirisu: もし違う色で編むとしたら何色を選びますか？
Nataliya: 実はすでに薄い水色とピンクの手袋を編みました。次は淡い白黒のような色合いで編みたいと思っていて、グレーや青の濃淡も良いかなと考えています。instagramやRavelryで皆さんが編んでいる色を見るとどれも素敵で、黄色と淡いグレーなども魅力的です。
amirisu: オランダに引越してから編み物に関して何か変化したことはありますか？
Nataliya: 本当のことを告白すると...オランダに行く前は編み物をしていなかったんです。9歳の時に祖母に編み物を習いましたが、それを趣味にするほどの根気がなくて。2015年まではモスクワの広告会社でアートディレクターとして働き、2千万人が住む大きな都市で多忙に暮らしていましたが、今は約9千人しかいないオランダのロッテルダム近郊の小さい村で森や野原に囲まれ生きています。25歳の誕生日に25mmの棒針とLoopy Mangoの大きなsuper chunky yarnをもらって1時間後には人生初の手編みの帽子が出来上がり、その日から編み物に夢中になりました。編み物は大都市から小さい村への生活の変化に対応する力をくれ、物事に時間をかけることや静けさを楽しむことを教えてくれました。
amirisu: 最近はどんな編み物やデザインをしていますか?
Nataliya: 編み物においては、いつも新しい技法にチャレンジし今まで使ったことがない編み方を盛り込みたいと思っています。でも、夜に映画を観ながら編めるようなシンプルなプロジェクトも針にかかっていますし、忍耐が必要な編みかけの大プロジェクトもあります。これは何百もの糸処理が必要なブランケットで、やろうという固い決意がある時にのみ戻って編んでいます。このように、その時の自分の気分にぴったりの編み物プロジェクトをいくつか持つようにしています。
