Today we’re introducing Rie, the designer of Hamabe. Rie has been sharing her designs with us since the first issue of amirisu. She also creates some lovely hand-dyed yarns, they are available online here: meriyasu-ami.net.

amirisu: What was your inspiration for this design?

Rie: I was inspired by this really wonderful cardigan I saw the main character wearing in a movie! I spent some time thinking of how to recreate the cardigan as a hand-knit garment and came up with this design. But in the end, my design doesn’t resemble the cardigan that inspired it at all…
The movie was Changeling staring Angelina Jolie. The plot is a little heavy, but it’s set in the 1920s and features some outstanding costuming.

amirisu: If you were to knit this design in another color, what would it be?

Rie: If I were to make another, I would knit it in white.

amirisu: How did you start your knitting journey?

Rie: I decided to start knitting when I was pregnant.

amirisu: Could you tell us about any shops or places you recommend in your area? We are dreaming of places to go and things to do in the future.

Rie: I live in Suita, Osaka, where the Expo Commemoration Park (for the 1970 Japan World Exposition) is located. I haven’t checked for myself yet, but I hear that the Tower of the Sun is lit up green these days.

Also, a little yarn shop called room amie is located just one train station away.

Rie:
