Cléo by Orlane Sucche

Cléo by Orlane Sucche

Today we're sharing our interview with designer Orlane Sucche. Orlane created Cléo for Issue 23, a sweet pullover with a geometric colorwork motif around the yoke. The yoke motif can be interpreted in different ways, but keep reading to learn what scene in particular inspired this design.

amirisu: What was your inspiration for this design?
Orlane:  As mentioned in the magazine, Cléo is inspired by the film directed by Agnès Varda, "Cléo from 5 to 7" in 1962. More precisely, I found inspiration for the yoke motif in a scene where Cléo (performed by Corinne Marchand) walks into a shop to buy a hat. She also tries on a necklace, which seems to belong to Agnès Varda if you look closely at this image.

amirisu: If you were to knit this design in another color, what would it be?
Orlane:
The shades of the Rustic Heather Sport are truly beautiful, and I’d love to have a Cléo knitted in Beet, Ginger or Pollen with the colourwork in Snow.

amirisu: What is your favorite movie genre?
Orlane:  I like a lot of different kinds of cinemas, ones that take us on a journey, give us a particular look into social realities, or allow us to discover distant landscapes... For me the beauty of the images and the capacity of history to take you away are more important than the intrigue or the entertainment. Having children who are fans of Japanese animated films, I watch a lot with them. I like their magical side. Among contemporary directors, I like the work of Kelly Reichardt, Céline Sciamma, or Naomi Kawase.

amirisu: When and where do you typically knit?
Orlane: I mainly knit at home, a little in the afternoon while listening to the radio, and a little in the evening while watching movies or a series. Nothing very original! I love to knit on the train, in the car, but these are rarer moments lately.

Thank you for your time, Orlane!

Orlane
