For the start of 2018, we are going to introduce Mizuho Komiya, the designer behind Raindrops from our latest issue. She is a charming staff at WALNUT Kyoto, teaches regularly at the shop, and has been designing for amirisu shops since 2015. So let's start the interview!
amirisu: What was your inspiration for Raindrops?
Mizuho: Looking at the amirisu mood board for the issue, I remember thinking that I would like to propose something pop and cute. I am always looking for an inspiration for a new design, for instance, like a pattern on someone's bag, or an air duct lining up beside the building, that I see while driving. I cannot recall what the actual inspiration was for the Raindrops, but it usually comes from my daily life.
amirisu: If you were to knit with another color, what will it be?
Mizuho: Hedgehog Fibres are so colorful and always appealing, but for myself, I would probably knit with darker colors such as navy and light grey. Using highly contrasted colors for the MC and CC, will help the raindrops pop out more, and thus the beauty of the pattern .
amirisu: When and why did you start knitting?
Mizuho: I liked knitting since I was a little girl, but after giving birth to my child, I really got hooked. Baby items are so small and a fast knit, and also so cute!
amirisu: Were you knitting with Japanese patterns at the beginning? If so, has anything changed after you got to know English patterns, and also after finding Raverly?
Mizuho: I was knitting with Japanese patterns, but always modifying it to my liking, and never followed it perfectly. But after finding English patterns and Raverly, I was awed by the varieties of designs and the new techniques. And relating to written patterns for the first time, I'm so happy that the ideas that were only in my head, could come out as a pattern that everyone can see.
amirisu: What are you recently knitting/designing?
Mizuho: Most recently, I made a perfectly fitted sweater for my aging dog. Also, I'm thinking of designing at least one simple sweater in this winter season, and in order to do so, bought Woolfolk FAR.
amirisu: How do you like working at amirisu?
Mizuho: It is so much fun! I can buy yarn whenever I want, and when a new yarn comes in, we are always the first to see them. But on the other hand, I tend to stash yarn more than I should...

新年明けましておめでとうざいます。ここ数日寒い日が続いていますが、お気に入りの手編みのセーターや小物を身につけることができて嬉しいですね。 amirisuは2018年も楽しい企画を色々と用意していますので、今年もどうぞお付き合い下さい。 さて、新年最初のインタビューはWalnut京都店のスタッフでもあるMizuhoさんにお話しをお聞きしました。京都店ではレッスンを受け持ち、amirisuオリジナルのパターンも多くデザインしています。では、始めましょう！
amirisu: Raindropsのインスピレーションはどんなところから得ましたか？
Mizuho: amirisuのイメージボードを見て、ポップでかわいいものを提案しようと思ったことは覚えています。 何かデザインの元にならないかと、常に色々なものを観察しています。たとえば運転中などに見かけた人が持っている鞄の模様や、ビルのダクトの並んでいる形など。Raindropsの具体的な模様のイメージがどこから来たのかは忘れてしまいましたが、インスピレーションは編み物外から来ることが多いです。
amirisu: もしご自分用にもう1着編むとしたら、何色にしますか？
Mizuho: Hedgehog Fibresの糸はカラフルでとてもかわいいのですが、自分用に編むとしたら、紺と薄いグレーなど、モノトーンに近いものにすると思います。MCとCCの明度差をはっきりとさせると、さらに雨粒の形が際立って素敵になると思っています。
amirisu: 編み物を始めたきっかけは何でしたか？
Mizuho: 小さいころからなぜか編み物が好きでしたが、本格的にハマったきっかけは、出産を機に子供のものを編んだことです。小さくて、すぐに編めて、かわいかった！
amirisu: 最初は日本の編み図で編まれていましたか？その場合は、海外パターンやRaverlyに出会ったことで何か変わったことはありますか？
Mizuho: ずっと日本の編み図で編んでいましたが、変わり者なので編み図通りにきっちり編んだことはほとんどなく、いつも適当にアレンジしていました。海外パターンやRaverlyを知ってその素晴らしいデザインや新しい技法に本当に魅了されていますが、それ以上に文章パターンを知ることによって、今まで適当に編んできた私好みのデザインがパターンという形になる、ということに喜びを感じています。
amirisu: 最近はどんな編み物やデザインをしていますか？
Mizuho: 一番最近は、老犬になって体毛が薄くなってしまった愛犬のために体にフィットした防寒着を編みました。 それと、今季中シンプルなセーターを一枚はデザインしようと考えていてWool ForkのFARを購入しました。
amirisu: amirisuで働くってどんな感じですか？
Mizuho: とにかく楽しいです(笑)！買いたい時に、すぐに糸が買えますし。 新しい糸が入荷したらそのすべての色や種類を一番に見ることができる特典もあります。ただし、買いすぎてしまう危険もあるのですが。
